Live Arts-Fringe

Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the work of artists, both locally in the Philadelphia area and internationally, by organizing two performing arts festivals every year in September. The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival is a two-week theater festival featuring a score of performances from around the world, organized and sponsored by the company, and Philly Fringe is a series of unfiltered performances organized by individual artists under the Live Arts-Fringe umbrella.

Within the first week of my (accounting) internship, I had convinced my supervisor to let me work with the IT infrastructure. For the dated intern computers, I developed a minimalist image with only essential programs on it: internet browsing, word processing, company software, and maintenance utilities. I also worked with the regular staff computers, making each one as simple to use, functional, secure, and efficient as I was able, given cost and resource restrictions. I made sure to document every tool I used and every recurring maintenance step in the standard operating procedures so that my improvements would outlive my time at Live Arts-Fringe. Finally, I updated the company accounting software, which had been five years out of date, and I reworked the way expenses were handled, standardizing the process using digital forms.
